What is EMDR Therapy?

A Trauma-Informed Specialized Approach

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidenced-based trauma informed and somatic-based therapeutic and powerful approach that I integrate when doing trauma work.

How does EMDR Therapy work?

  • EMDR Therapy is a structured approach that focuses on processing specific traumatic memories, emotions, beliefs, and thoughts that are significantly impacting your life.

  • EMDR will help you reframe your limiting beliefs and emotional responses that were developed throughout your life and that are linked to traumatic memories; therefore, helping you respond in a more adaptive way and less reactive.

  • EMDR integrates a brain-body integration through Bilateral stimulation (typically eye movement), somatic work such as tapping and other mindfulness approaches are used to help re-process these traumatic memories.

  • EMDR supports trauma recovery and supports you in reframing, in creating meaning, and shifts your perception of your experiences.

  • EMDR therapy is more structured and it is not traditional talk therapy. In addition to using as a main form of therapeutic approach, it can also be used in adjunct to talk therapy.

Let Me Walk You Through The Therapy Process

  • You schedule a complementary consultation to determine if we are a good fit and how we can work together depending on what your needs and goals are.

  • You will complete the necessary forms prior to begin online therapy, consultations, immigration evaluations since these are also part of therapeutic process. The first session will focus on getting to know each other and what brings you therapy. We will collaboratively come up with goals and a plan to start our work together.

  • We will meet virtually unless otherwise indicated. This is the where most of the work is done in therapeutic process. As I mentioned before, accountability is a big part of our work together; therefore, doing the work is also holding yourself accountable to continue doing the inner work and integrate all of the tools and learnings outside therapy as well. That’s where you will see the most impact, growth, healing transformation happens.

  • The main goal for therapy and is for you to feel confident to take your transformative process with you wherever you go. To level up to the next phase of your life. We develop a transition plan, where we celebrate you- the growth, the healing, and the transformation that has taken place throughout our work together so you can integrate it, apply it to your life and continue on your journey.
